Blue Power Ranger Applique Design
I created this blue power ranger applique design for my youngest son Andrew. He recently turned 5 and thanks to Netflix is obsessed with the power rangers. I am new to applique designing and hit a few snags here and there. I noticed a few changes that needed to be made after the first stitch out. It is a learning process for sure. I bought the Embird program for editing, digitizing, and converting applique designs last May. It isn't very user friendly for beginners. I have learned a lot over the last year through trial and error and with a little help from You Tube. After I stitched out the blue power ranger applique design I realized that the symbol color was wrong. It should be black with a white outline. Thankfully he is only 5 and wasn't bothered by this blunder.

Blue Charm Quilt Pattern
I designed a baby quilt called Blue Charm Quilt using EQ7 and wanted to share it with everyone. It is a very easy beginners quilt pattern. If you want it to have a scrappy look it will take 64 five inch squares. Charm packs would be great for this pattern. Please feel free to share this with anyone. I would love to see a picture of a finished product if anyone decides to make it. The link is to a PDF of the instructions. If you need a .doc or .odt format let me know and I can email it to you.

Home Made Congestion Remedy
I woke up with a cold Saturday morning. Minor head congestion, stuffy nose, and sore throat. I have been taking generic Mucinex to help loosen the congestion. I found two home made congestion remedies on Pinterest to try.
The first home made congestion remedy I tried you can find here at Fitsugar. I can't begin to describe how awful the burning was from the amount of Cayenne pepper. When mixing up the recipe I thought to myself that it seemed like a little bit too much. My sinuses did loosen up mildly, but no more than from taking over the counter medicine. From the awful taste I decided that it wasn't worth trying again.
The second home made congestion remedy I tried you can find here at Good Food Matters. The taste was pretty good and not nearly as bad. Again it didn't help any better than the Mucinex medicine. I should take more of it. However, I'm not a big fan of spicy.
I'm not feeling any better than when I started the experiments. Now my ears are clogged.

Nautical Themed Baby Quilt
I made this nautical themed baby quilt not too long ago. I used the Moda Nautical and nice fabric charms.
I used a Noah's ark fabric on the back. I found a ton of it at a thrift store a while back. I have used it on the back of a lot of baby quilts.
I free motion quilted rows of waves in a cream colored thread and used a dark navy blue fabric binding.

Sausage Breakfast Casserole
We like to eat breakfast now and again for dinner. I wanted to do something different; outside of our usual routine. I searched Google for sausage breakfast casseroles and found this one.
Sausage Breakfast Casserole
It was very easy to make. It took about 15 minutes of prep before I popped it in the preheated oven. Here is what it looks like cooking.
I'll update this post later with my review and a picture of it when it came out of the oven.
Here is the finished product. I took the picture with my phone. It is slightly blurry.

This casserole was so good. All three boys and my hubby loved it. Now to get everyone raving over it is unusual at my house. They are all picky in one way or another. There was only a 1/4 of it left over and hubby ate that for breakfast. This is definitely going to become a staple.
I did do a couple things different than the recipe. I used honey wheat bread instead of white. I also toasted it in the toaster before cutting it up. I added a touch of garlic powder and onion powder with the salt and pepper.
Let me know if you try it! Enjoy!

How to make a kids cape
I was cutting up t-shirts and sweat shirts that belong to our eldest son today when I had a flash of genius. There was an adult large hooded sweat shirt that looked like a kids cape once I cut off the arms and the front. Our youngest son, Andrew will be four in April. I had him try on the kids cape and he loves it. He didn’t really want to pose for pictures. He is camera shy and has a hard time standing still.

Busy Bee
I am so busy. You would think with Christmas being over that I could slow down and relax. I sat down this evening determined to come up with a Monday through Friday schedule for myself so that I can use my time more efficiently. Or something to the effect of telling my time where to go instead of wondering where the day went. I want to fell like I have accomplished something when my head hits the pillow. I used to have so much time for sewing. Now I seem to have none.
I have managed to make a few tutus and pot holders. Not much else. I got a Janome Memory Craft 350e Embroidery Machine for Christmas. I am so excited and want to use it. One of the many reasons for the schedule.
What do you do to keep your self on task? I'd love to hear any tips.
Happy Sewing.

Baby Quilt for Garrett David Faires
Garrett David graced his parents and big sister with his presents on 10/28/11, 3 weeks early. He weighed 5 lbs 12 oz. He is adorable. I don't have a picture of the cute little bundle of joy to share just yet. Mom and Garrett have gone home and are doing great.
These are the promised pictures of the one quilt I have made this year. The first picture is the front and the second is the back.

I'm still here...
I haven't had any time for sewing lately. The only thing I have sewed is fabric postcards or to fix clothes. I started working part time from home and it has been a real challenge to be a full time mom, wife, maid, and have a job. There are so many distractions at home. I really miss sewing. I need to make two baby quilts for friends who will have babies this fall. I have fabric just have to decide on the pattern. If you have any fun baby quilt patterns please let me know. I'd love to look them over. Hugs and happy sewing.

Kidlet Reusable Bag
There is a swap on Swap-Bot to make one of these Kidlet bags designed by Jennifer Casa. They are multi purpose and kid friendly. They can hang on door knobs, drawer pulls, hooks, etc...I am going to make a few for our house. My son's could benefit to have one for their IPod and cell phone accessories. I am going to make one for my car. You could make the strap with velcro so that you could use it around the head rest in a car for toy storage or accessories. The tutorial is very easy to follow. It has a ton of great pictures for visual aid. Bravo Jennifer!

I never knew what an ATC was until I saw swaps on Swap-Bot for them. I Googled ATC's to find directions on how to make them. I have made a few since then. We have a swap going on now for fabric ATC's. Here are two that I made. One I mailed off, the other is a surprise for someone else.
They measure 3 1/2 inches x 2 1/2 inches.(The same size as baseball cards.) I left the lace open on one end and inserted a button before sewing it closed.

Crumb Chaos
Crumbs? No I'm not talking about bread crumbs.
In the quilting world crumbs are little pieces of scraps sewn together to make blocks. Very random scrappy happy blocks. Similar to crazy quilt blocks, without all the fancy stitching. (If you throw out your scraps your crazy). They can be made into wonderful snuggling quilts.
My friend Pat @ Bell Creek Quilts showed a beautiful quilt top she quilted made from crumb blocks on her blog. However her crumbs where all blue and red. She made a Quilt of Valor quilt out of them. She also provided a link to a photo tutorial on how to make these crumb chaos blocks. Although I don't have a photo to share right now I knew I had to share the links with you. (A photo will come later). CRUMB CHAOS PHOTO TUTORIAL

Sewing Themed Greeting Cards
I hosted a group swap on Swap-Bot where you had to make 2 sewing themed greeting cards to send to your partner. I ended up having to make four. One of the participants wasn't happy with the quality of cards her partner sent her. So I sent her some too. The lace on two of the cards is from 1976. I bought a sewing kit at an estate sale last year. It was full of vintage sewing supplies. The paper measuring tape was part of the loot. I thought it would look great on some cards.
